New Law October 2018:

All drivers must still complete Driver's Ed and complete practice hours in a rookie log. The new law

regards your holding period for your permit.

  • Drivers under 18 must hold a permit for 9 months and practice a minimum of 60 hours with 10 hours at night.
  • Drivers 18 or over who possess a high school diploma must hold a permit for 90 days and practice a minimum of 60 hours with 10 hours at night.
  • Drivers 19 or over must hold a permit for 90 days and practice  minimum of 60 hours with 10 hours at night
  • Drivers 25 or over must hold a permit for 45 days and practice a minimum of 14 hours with 3 hours at night.

Do not wait to get your permit so you qualify for a shorter wait time. The requirements adjust to your current age. The sooner you get your permit, the sooner you get a license, every time. Waiting will NEVER get you a closer test date.

The calculator will always give you the closest time possible for your provisional test, if the requirements adjusting when you turn 18 would be sooner than waiting 9 months, it'll give you your 18th birthday.
